NEWS STORIES - THURSDAY 20 SEPTEMBER 2007

YOU CAN'T FIRE ME - I'M FAMOUS
BBC1 / 2 October 2007
Presented by Piers Morgan, You Can’t Fire Me I’m Famous delves into the private lives and careers of high profile celebrities who at one time dominated the media headlines due to their high profile sacking, or resignation. During a frank and indepth interview Donny Osmond speaks exclusively to Piers Morgan about his rise and fall from fame. At the age of six, Donny Osmond was a TV Star. As a teenager he was the biggest pop star in the world, and even had his own TV show on American network ABC. But, less than ten years later, his squeaky-clean image had become a liability. His TV show was axed, his record label dumped him and he was humiliated on Broadway. At the grand old age of 26, Donny was a ‘has-been’, and to cap it all he found out that all the money had gone.

BBC-2 NEW COMEDY LINE UP FROM 4 OCTOBER Thursday nights are about to take on a whole new meaning as BBC Two offers up a brilliant comedic line up. Peter Serafinowicz fronts a new season of comedy this autumn. Serafinowicz joins some of Britain’s greatest comedic talent including Jack Dee, Simon Amstell, Jennifer Saunders and Graham Norton to make Thursday nights the funniest by far.

Join comic actor Peter Serafinowicz as he morphs into a visual cacophony of characters. Through his impressions of familiar faces, Serafinowicz creates a wacky world where the likes of Al Pacino and Simon Cowell mingle with his own quirky creations, like impressively incompetent businessman Brian Butterfield and robot chat-show host, Michael-6. Taking a look at the best and worst of today’s TV and film, THE PETER SERAFINOWICZ SHOW plays host to television’s most futile game shows, including Heads or Tails? And offers the ‘celebrity’ interviews you won’t see anywhere else on the entertainment news channel, O! News.

Peter Serafinowicz has built a loyal following of comedy fans through his work as both a comedy actor and writer. His self-penned series Look Around You earned him a double BAFTA nomination and his other television roles include Hardware, Spaced and Smack the Pony. His film credits include Shaun of the Dead and Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace, as the voice of Darth Maul.

JENNIFER SAUNDERS stars in a new comedy drama, THE LIFE AND TIMES OF VIVIENNE VYLE. Co-written by Saunders, the series is a dark, comedic look at the daytime talk show format with straight talking host Vivienne Vyle, played by Saunders. She’s Sally Jesse Raphael, Ricki Lake, Jeremy Kyle and Dr Phil all rolled into one; but her ambition knows no bounds – she wants to be Oprah.

Jam packed with confessions and shocking revelations, every day before a live audience, Vivienne addresses the big issues in life such as: "My Son Calls The Wrong Man Daddy" and “I Want A Vagina, but can’t kick the crack."

Multi-award winning comedy talk show host GRAHAM NORTON returns for a new series of THE GRAHAM NORTON SHOW. Norton invites an array of celebrity guests to explore the trends, stories and culture that interest him most. Norton delivers his trademark comedy monologues, eccentric stories and characters from the great British viewing public.

The comedy line up continues in November with a new series of NEVER MIND THE BUZZCOCKS and LEAD BALLOON.

SIMON AMSTELL hosts a brand new series of the highly rated Never Mind the Buzzcocks. Celebrity guests from the worlds of entertainment and music are primed for embarrassment and the occasional ribbing. The show has a satirical edge that proves the world of pop should never be taken too seriously.

JACK DEE returns as Rick Spleen in the new series of LEAD BALLOON (season one was a real highlight of the year) which premiers on BBC TWO this autumn. Rick’s back - and as he will tell you, he's on the way up, his career is going from strength to strength and he’s never been so popular. In other words, he's still the same old self-deluded liar, making a living from corporate gigs, low-rent chat shows and hoping for the big break.

There's plenty to preoccupy Rick. From the points on his driving licence to the shadowy hitman he is convinced is on his tail, Rick's problems are always on his mind, and almost always of his own making. Then of course, there's the trickiest problem of all - how does he lie his way out of them?

It looks like Thursday Nights is going to be BBC-2 night for the rest of the year then.

SERIES 5-8 OF BAD GIRLS
2 Entertain / 22 October 2007
It looks like there is plenty of life behind bars left yet for the bad girls of HMP Larkhall, not only are they currently tearing up the West End stage every night in Bad Girls the Musical but a 14 disc collection featuring series 5 through to 8 of the series gets the deluxe box set treatment by 2|Entertain next month.

Following the destructive fire that engulfed Larkhall wing at the end of series 4, Yvonne Atkins emerges from solitary confinement unaware of who has survived. The question is will she be able to maintain her position as ‘top dog’? The action unfolds and a familiar face makes a return, when the infamous Shell Dockley is tracked down in a seedy strip club.

In series 6 Fenner is haunted by the cries of Yvonne Atkins, whilst series 7 sees the arrival of a new Wing Governor and Fenner experiencing life on the other side of the bars. The final series of Bad Girls sees the long brewing rivalry between Natalie Buxton and Pat Kerrigan reach boiling point.
