HEADLAND

Australia / Channel 7 / x60m-e / 2005-2006

Creator: Bevan Lee

A soap opera very much in the vein of Home and Away following the intertwined lives of the young residents of the Headlands Hotel and nearby University.

The show began as four lives end. What really happened on that wet winters night....Accident or Murder? There is only one survivor who knows for sure and he lies in a coma. The residents want their revenge, they want to point the finger at someone and Craig (Sam Atwell) is the easy target.

This takes us into the lives of family, friends and the University including the disturbed temperamental princess Sasha (Rachael Taylor) who uses sex as a weapon, her loner brother Heath (Matthew Walker) charged with his sister Sasha's care and his headstrong ex-girlfriend Elly (Adrienne Pickering) who has chosen to follow her head rather than her heart. Living with Sasha and her brother is a frustrated young wife and mother Kate (Brooke Harman) drowning in domestic life and her husband Will (Josh Quong Tart) who is struggling with the fact that he has cheated on the love of his life.

Next is the life of the students; the outgoing and completely directionless young man Andy (Reshad Strik) - who keeps the girls lining up, his best platonic girlfriend Mel (Sophie Katinis) who is in love with life, shy awkward Maddie (Jody Kennedy) who is secretly in love with her sister's killer. And then there are the University Councellors, Grace (Libby Tanner) who is grieving for the death of her secret lover and yet remain strong for her brother Craig as the mystery and scandal continues to build around the accident.

And finally the man of intrigue, Adam (Conrad Coleby) who has just driven into town to take up a position at the University. As Adam discovers headland so do we, uncovering the secrets that hide in this seemingly perfect coastal town.

Filmed in the gorgeous Austinmer area of South Coast NSW, the setting are almost a major character in the drama. The show was originally scheduled to be shown twice weekly but quickly switched to four nights per week, a heavy schedule this as the show (unusually for this type) runs for an hour.
