In 1786 Mary Broad is caught stealing to feed her poor family and she is convicted
and transported on the inaugural voyage of men and women prisoner to the Australian
penal colony of Botany Bay. There she marries fellow prisoner Will Bryant and she
has two children. But fiercely single-minded she organises an escape using any
means at her disposal and endures an epic voyage on an open boat to a safe port.
But the British lieutenant whom she deceived is determined to track her down and
bring her to justice.
