shown weekday afternoons detailing the exploits of a group of
characters on the island of the title, the village was called Diddle
Dum Each episode featured one self
contained story and the island adventures were principally concerned
with the Kingdom of Diddle Dum Diddle, occasionally there would be a
week long pantomime with all the cast taking on different roles. Characters included
Fifi, Lisa,
Clown, Sailor and Penny Panda. Because of its educational value when
it was cancelled questions were asked in Parliament. With:- Nancy Cato as the Ist
Narrator / Sue Donovan as the 2nd Narrator / Prior to this show
in the mid 1960's Nancy Cato and John-Michael Howson had been heavily
involved in the similar Music Circle Club, 550 episodes of that show
were produced at ATV0's Melbourne studios between February 1965 and
March 1967 and the show won the first logie award ever given to a
children's program.Characters on that show
included, Fred Bear, Leonardo de FunBird and Cassius Cuckoo. Adventure
Island won a TV Week special logie in 1968.
The show was taped at the ABC's Melbourne studios every Sunday and Monday
and then shown throughout the week. For quite a while the show
was Australia's top children's tv show.
