E1 - THE EARLY BIRD SHOW TO ENTERTAINING FRIENDS

THE EARLY BIRD SHOW

10 Network / 1984-89

A Saturday morning kids show featuring a mix of cartoons, music and guests and so on and hosted by Daryl Cotton, Marie Van Maaren and Marty Monster (a man in a furry Monster costume). This is the show featuring the infamous incident of Marty being attacked by a Kangaroo named Rags live on air. The "early bird" concept had previously been seen from the 1970's non nationally in Perth with SAS 10 (Adelaide) and 7 (Perth) these stations telecast 'Earlybirds' shows featuring Fat Cat and a female co-host (in Adelaide Veronica Overton (70s) before Didi James (late 70s) and Jane Reilly (80s) and a range of competitions, music film clips and the obligatory cartoons. This show generally ran from 7am to 9am Monday to Friday.

Natural History with an environmental outlook aimed at teenagers. Hosted by Peter Cousens and then in 1986 by Dr David Smith

Drama. Outback mother Gladwyn Ritchie fears the effects of her stepdaughter Lara, aged 15, moving in. Lara finds it hard to settle into the family (following the death of her natural mother whom she was living with) but later finds comfort in the company of a stray Dingo she calls Thunderwith. Filmed near Victoria's Mount Beauty.

Drama. A woman's pas sionate fight to preserve her home and the memories it holds for her against the pres sures brought to bear by rela tives and friends. In the course of the conflict, several family skeletons are revealed.

Children's drama series. Adventures of a young Indian boy with his own elephant - the pair worked on a game reserve - logging. Source material was Rudyard Kipling's Toomai of the Elephants.

Current affairs show broadcast weekdays 11am, hence the title, hosts included Ann Sanders, Roger Climpson, Mike Bailey, Ken Begg,
Graham Kennedy and Steve Liebmann.

 

ELLE McFEAST: The Queen and I

Ten Network / 1x60m-e / 2000 (Broadcast: Thursday 23 November / 8.30pm)

Comedy documentary in which Elle McFeast travelled to the UK to find out what she could about The Queen, there were contributions from Diana's brother Charles Spencer, Diana's mum Frances Shand Kydd and also the Queen's personal milliner Frederick Fox.

Episodes both professional and personal in the lives of the doctors and nurses of a busy Emergency ward, the series was heavily influenced by the UK show Emergency Ward 10, then very popular. Producer Strong also wrote most of  the scripts for the show (under a variety of names).
