ENTERTAINING WITH KERR

Cooking show hosted by the frantic paced Graham Kerr who well deserved his "Galloping Gourmet" nom de plume. The show was later retitled The Galloping Gourmet. Kerr was a large fellow and made much use of butter and other such naughty ingredients in his recipes but he returned in the 1990's (as guest on daytime tv shows and the like) in a new slimmed down version extolling the virtues of low fat cooking. 

 

THE ERIC BANA SHOW LIVE

The Eric Bana show was initially a variety/chat type show of hour long episodes that was later during its run turned into a straightforward half hour sketch show. The show also featured quite a few of the characters Eric had created during his time with Full Frontal. Thanks to Barry Bits for his contribution to this entry.

 

ERNIE AND DENISE 

9 Network / x50m-e / 1992-?

Producers: Paul Staff, Shauna Kane

An "advertainment" type morning talk show with Denise Drysdale and Ernie Sigley talking to people and talking about various products. Interstingly separate versions were filmed for NSW, Victoria and Queensland.

Mixture of talk music and comedy sketches initially twice weekly and much in the vein of the Tonight Show. 

 

ESCAPE

7 Network / 13x60m-e / 1988

Lifestyle. Travel show focusing on trips throughout Australia. Reporters included Evan Green, Yolanta Novak, Rhys Jones, Peter Hillary and Roger Clarke.  

 

ESCAPE FROM JUPITER

ABC-NHK-Film Australia / 13x25m-e / 1994

Executive Producer: Ron Saunders / Producer: Terry Jennings

Children's scifi drama series. The inhabitants of a space colony are forced to flee to Earth on a derelict space station. The crux of the story featured five kids living on Io one of Jupiter's 16 moons, thanks to an inadvertent drilling operation which causes the moon to start to crumble causing the survivors to flee. The series made ample use of computer generated graphics and was an Australia-Japan co-production. For some reason the show was screened first in the UK.

ESCAPE OF THE ARTFUL DODGER

Children's period action adventure series. Jack Dawkin's aka ace pickpocket The Artful Dodger is transported to Australia during Victorian times and finds himself in adventure at every turn. A spin on the Oliver Twist story by Charles Dicken's picking up Dodger's story from the end of that book.

E.S.P. AND ALL THAT

10 Network / 1x60m-e / 1971 (Tuesday 29 June / 7.30pm)

A special show featuring hypnotist Martin St James along with guests Chris Kirby, Tommy Kirby, Tommy Hanlon Jr and Bobby Donovan. As well as all the usual hypnosis type stuff there was also an attempt to get to the bottom of Extra Sensory Perception.

 

E STREET

10 Network-Westside / 404x50m-e / 1989-95

Drama series. Episodes in the lives of the residents of the inner city area of Wildside, initially the focus was on characters like GP Dr Elly Fielding, social worker Martha O'Dare, vicar Bob Brown and pub landlord Ernie Patchett, later the series descended into fantasy somewhat, in the style of a US daytime soap, with characters going blind, and some of the youngsters trying for pop stardom. Creator Redlich had been a producer on the couldn't be more different 'A Country Practice'.

Period drama serial. The story of the 1854 Victoria gold miners rebellion led by a pair of Irishmen - Timothy Hayes and Peter Lalor. Filmed at Bendigo in Victoria. On Thursday 3 February 1977 @ 9.30pm Channel 7 broadcast an hour long documentary about the event.

Daytime game show, based on a US original which saw people off the street give the answer to a question, the contestants then had to try and guess what the question actually was. Hosted by Philip Brady.

 

AN EVENING WITH...

General entertainment show that saw well known celebrities talk about their life and their favourite things. People involved included Googie Withers and her husband John McCallum, Richard Neville and Bill Peach.

 

THE EVIE HAYES SHOW

Producer: Fred Maxian

Variety series starring singer Evie Hayes, other regulars included Jeffrey Lenner, Will Mahoney and Frank Thorn.

 

THE EVIL TOUCH

An anthology series with a thriller-ish theme. The dramas were made with the American market in mind with plenty of US guest stars. An Australia-USA Co-production. 

 

THE EXPLORERS

ABC-BBC-Time Life / 10x30m-e / 1984

Music: Greg Sneddon / Producer: Bill Peach

A series of historical dramatised documentaries looking at some of Australia's earliest pioneers. People featured included Macquarie, Burke and Wills. Thomas Livingstone Mitchell (portrayed by Tom Oliver), Oxley, Sir Charles Sturt (played by Steve Grives), King (played by Chris Haywood), Leichhardt, Hume, and Lawson. 

 

EXPLOSION

ABC / 1x35 minute episodes / 8 May 1971  

Documentary. An account of the development in North West Australia and the way the Churches are entering into the situation.
