1980 / 7.30pm)
Quiz show of
the General Knowledge kind with a trio of contestants answering fastest on
the buzzer questions to win cash and prizes. The show was first mooted by
Reg Grundy in 1969 when he decided he would like to make a local version
of the US Show, he was unable to get the format rights, this led to the
devising of the show Temptation which quickly became a daytime hit, it
wasn't until 1980 that Grundy snagged the rights to Sale of the Century,
Temptation host Tony Barber getting the seat for this show too. Barber
quit in February 1991 over money matters and Glenn Ridge took over in
April of that year. The shows first champion in 1980 was Vince Smith who
won $73,149 but cash prizes have since exceeded $600,000. Co-Hosts have
included Victoria Nicholls, Delvene Delaney, Alyce Platt, Jo Bailey, Nicky
