All the participants and interviewees in the drama were actors. Narration by Brian Cox.

Drama. Newlywed Phil inherits his mysterious great grandfather's unfinished journals and gives up his job to edit them. It becomes an obsession to the dismay of his wife Maisie. In the journals he finds a blueprint for a fantastical geometric shape describing a plane without surface which when constructed exhibits unusual properties to vanish or make people disappear. Based on a 1975 short story by Ian McEwan who also wrote a TV script in 1979 for a proposed BBC version that was to have been directed by Mike Newell - however the project was abandoned because of the sexual content. This drama was also shown a month earlier on Scottish ITV as part of their NEW FOUND LAND anthology series.
