ALONE by Lisa Gardner
Publishers: Allen and Unwin

Reviewer: PJ

If she carries on like this Gardner could well see herself becoming the new queen of the genre, Alone packs in more hairs standing up on the back of the neck moments within its page than any thriller of recent memory; Bobby Dodge, a Massachusetts State Trooper, is coming off the back of a distressing armed siege; Catherine Gagnon has

spent 25 years trying to forget the terrifying horror of being abducted, buried underground and left for dead, together she and Dodge come face to face with the evil and sadistic Mr Bosu, fresh out of prison and out for vengeance.

There are echoes of other writers in Gardner's latest (Harlan Coben and Dean Koontz to name a couple) but she has a clever knack of stamping her own voice on the

seemingly ever popular serial killer genre, the gripping pace of Alone gets you through one or two eyes closed icky moments and Gardner builds and builds until the finale fair explodes off the page.

Gardner will pull in a lot of new converts with this latest book and if you are looking for a thriller of page turning suspense and nail biting tension then you won't mind spending some quality time Alone.
