Buried Alive by Jonathan Stroud
Publishers: Corgi

Reviewer: Fran

Michael McIntyre wakes up from a nap in the grass with an unusual ability, he can see peoples’ souls.  Around  the time he was receiving this strange gift a puzzling discovery was made in the local church grounds.  The new vicar, Tom Aubrey, researches the large artefact and uncovers some mysterious folklore about his new parish that would indicate that things are not as they seem.
Tom becomes convinced that there is something bad happening in the quiet little town of Fordrace and that somehow Michael is involved in it all.  Tom. Michael and his family become embroiled in a struggle to battle the evil that is threatening to engulf them all.

This novel only took me a couple of hours to read and I didn’t find it as scary as the blurb on the back of the book implied it was.  The story flowed easily and was unusual enough to maintain my interest throughout.  With each storyline neatly completed I found it to be a  satifying read.
