CANDLEMOTH By Roger Jon Ellory
Publishers: Allen and Unwin (Orion)

Reviewer: Fran

Set against the backdrop of civil tension in 1960’s America and treading a similar path to The Shawshank Redemption, Candlemoth will have you gripped from start to finish.
Nathan Verney and Daniel Ford become best friends in a time of great change and their loyalties are tested over time as they journey into adulthood together.  Their story is recounted by Daniel to Father John Rousseau (has apparently been appointed to be Daniels spiritual advisor as his execution date for the murder of Nathan creeps closer.) Beginning with his first meeting with Nathan, aged six, on the shores of a lake in 1952, through first loves, Vietnam , the death of Kennedy and finally their flight from the draft which ends in Nathan's brutal murder.

A story of great impact, so good in fact that you want to skip to the end to find out what happens.

With his first published novel Roger Jon Ellory builds the relationships within this book so realistically that you can almost feel the affection and loyalty that Daniel and Nathan felt for each other.
