Omnibus
Press are releasing a nicely
pocket sized set of guides
detailing the complete music
careers of rock and pop acts,
here we look at Bob Marley (by
Ian McCann and Harry Hawke), Led
Zeppelin (by ultimate fan Dave
Lewis) and U2 (by Bill Graham
and Caroline Van Oosten de
Boer).
The
trio of books have all been written by renowned experts on their chosen
artists and all follow the same format, starting with an overview of the
band and artist in question then heading straight into an album by album
breakdown of their recorded output and its not dry boring studio facts and
figures either but the real goss on how the
albums
and tracks came into being as
well as great behind the scenes
stuff such as in the Led
Zeppelin book about how bassist
John Paul Jones was ready to
quit just prior to House of the
Holy because of the bands
incessant touring schedule or
how armed thugs tried to kill
Bob Marley as he was making the
classic Exodus album, in fact
the Marley tome is probably the
pick of the bunch, his early
work was so diverse that McCann
and Hawke have done a fantastioc
job in tracking down all his
releases, these are great are
reads and perfect for taking
with you when you are browsing
through the second hand record
stores in search of that elusive
release.
