THE COUPLES GUIDE TO MONEY by Linda Gough
Publishers: Allen and Unwin

Reviewer: Danni

This book is designed with all of us in mind that have a shared income and still don’t know how to make it work to our advantage. Starting life as a couple can be tricky enough these days without the added pressure of who should pay for dinner and how much of our joint resources should be pooled. With this book as your guide, finding how to make the most of your combined income should be a piece of cake and in years to come you can also have your icing as well.
Linda Gough has had an extensive career in Finance and a successful investment column in the Sun Herald newspaper and drawing on this professional and personal experience she is able to give the reader some insightful tips on how to approach some of the dilemmas that modern couples face today. The style is very down to earth and approachable and although I can’t imagine not being able to discuss income issues with my spouse I am sure there are many couples that face similar issues, all of which are discussed in The Couples Guide to Money.

There are sample budgets, the myriad of housing loans explained and setting up financial portfolios along with goals to get you started and taking control of debt. One wage couple examples are used along with the timely issue of property investment. There are wills, taxes and superannuation discussed along with what to do when parting with coupledom and where to get more advice.

In all this book is a pocket guide with a wealth of information, that followed, should ensure that everyone has the knowledge and resources at their disposal to be able to make the most of their combined incomes.
