The character of Rab C. Nesbitt first appeared in this series. The cast included Gregor Fisher, Helen Lederer, Andy Gray, Elaine C. Smith, Tony Roper, Jonathon Watson, Ron Bain, John Sparkes and Louise Beattie.

The plays were titled Messiah (18 January 1984), Arthur and Guinevere (13 November 1985), Lawrence of Arabia (20 November 1985), Dawn of Man (27 November 1985), Boadicea ( 4 December 1985) and Revolution (9 July 1989 BBC2). Also involved in productions 1 and 6 was Jim Boradbent and in 2 - 5 Robert Austin.
NAT'S IN THE BELFRY BBC / 2x45m-e / 1956 (11 April and 9 May Wednesdays 8.45pm) black and white Creator/Producer: Richard Afton / Writers: David Jenkins, Marianne Lincoln A pair of specials starring the strange voiced Nat Jackley and his real life wife Marianne Lincoln. These shows were Nat Jackley only real major starring TV comedy shows.
NAUNTON WAYNE BBC / 1x5m-e 1x10m-e / 1937 and 1939 black and white Writer: Naunton Wayne / Producers: Royston Morley, Philip Bate Two short stand up segments starring the actor best known for his partnership with Basil Radford and their appearances as Charters and Caldicott in a series of films during the 1930's and 40's.
THE NEARLY COMPLETE AND UTTER HISTORY OF EVERYTHING BBC1 / 2x40m-e / 2000 (2-4 January / Sundays 10.10pm) Producer: Patricia McGowan / Executive Producer: Jon Plowman A collection of sketches (introduced by Angus Deayton) taking an off kilter look at history, the majority of the sketches had been seen throughout the BBC's all day 2000 Today broadcast. Those appearing included Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett, Harry Enfield, Victoria Wood, Thora Hird, Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, Amanda Holden, Gary Lineker, Clive Anderson, Barbara Windsor, Spike Milligan, Richard Briers, Richard Wilson, Helena Bonham-Carter, Neil MOrrissey, Juklia Sawalha, Natasha Little, Jack Dee and Brian Blessed.
NEVER MIND THE HORROCKS Channel Four-Hatrick / 1x50m-e / 1996 (19 September / Thursday 10.00pm) Producer: Dan Patterson / Executive Producer: Denise O'Donoghue / Director: John Birkin One off sketch special for the talented actress Jane Horrocks (who was also a talented mimic when it came to performing songs). Also appearing were Martin Clunes, Mel Giedroyc, David Haig, Philip Pope and Rebecca Front.

NEW LOOK ATV / 10x60m-e 1x45m-e / 1958-59 (11 December 58 - 24 June 59 / Thursdays 9.00pm / shown once every three weeks) black and white Creator/Producer: Brian Tesler / Writers: Jimmy Grafton, Alan Fell and Jeremy Lloyd Sketch based series featuring new talent, several big names featured including Roy Castle, Bruce Forsyth, Jack Douglas and Joe Baker.
NEWMAN AND BADDIEL IN PIECES BBC2 / 7x30m-e / 1993 27 September - 25 October Monday 10.00pm Writers: Rob Newman, David Baddiel / Producer: Harry Thompson, Director: Barbara Jones Sketch and stand up series starring Rob Newman and David Baddiel, the pair had graduated to this afyter being part of The Mary Whitehouse Experience quartet. There were two other editions featuring the pair, these were the pseudo documentary Newman and Baddiel on the Road to Wembley (with the pair on tour) broadcast 13 December 1993 and a Christmas special Newman and Baddiel in Christmas Pieces boradcast 20 December 1993 Monday 9.00pm. A showing of a live concert by the pair at Wembley has also been show (29 December 1994) under the title Newman and Baddiel in Pieces.
NICE TIME Granada / 28x30m-e / 1968-69 2 seasons black and white Producer: John Birt / Directors: Bill Podmore, Anton Bowler Sketch series featuring an emerging Kenny Everett as well as arch feminist Germaine Greer. Also appearing were Candid Camera's Jonathon Routh and in season two Sandra Gough. Note that the producer went on to become director general of the BBC.
NICE WORK - IF YOU CAN GET IT BBC / 1x30m-e 1x50m-e / 1938 (1 April Friday 3.10pm and then again 9.10pm) black and white A two sketch show special for April Fools Day. Part One shown in the afternoon was titled Nice Work whilst the second part, shown in the evening was titled If You Can Get It. The show featured Charles Heslop, Cyril Fletcher, the Narkover Gang and The Bashful Boys.

The programme took the from of an awards show and grew out of a segment on Noel Edmond's Late Late Breakfast Show. Noel Edmonds and Mike Smith hosted.

THE NORMAN EVANS SHOW BBC / 4x60m-e / 1956 (1 Season: 21 April - 16 June / Special: 13 October) Shown monthly Producer: Richard Afton A series featuring drag act Norman Guuise in his guise as a matronly woman holding conversations with a never seen neighbour over their garden wall. Interestingly Les Dawson based his own middle aged woman routines on Evan's style.
THE NORMAN GUNSTON SHOW BBC / 1x45m-e / 1976 19 November Friday 9.30pm Writers: Garry McDonald, John Sweeten, Peter Thorburn / Producer: Robin Nash Fake chat show host Norman Gunston (played by stand up comic Garry McDonald) in a one off UK special in which 'interviewed stars Michael Caine, Diana Dors and Glenda Jackson as well as Malcolm Muggeridge. A clear forerunner of Mrs Merton, Gunston's questions were often similarly ill advised. See also the Australian version of The Norman Gunston Show.
THE NORMAN VAUGHAN SHOW BBC / 3x45m-e 6x25m-e / 1966 3 specials plus one season Writers: Eric Merriman, Barry Took / Producer: Kenneth Carter, Michael Hurll Sketch based series starring the 'swinging and dodgy' Liverpudlian comedian. 3 specials (1 February BBC2 / 30 April / 12 June) were followed by a single season 6 October - 10 November BBC1 Thursday 9.05pm. Bill Pertwee of Dad's Army fame was a regular on the series.
NOT ANOTHER AWARDS SHOW BBC1 / 1x40m-e / 1999 ( 12 June - Saturday 9.45pm) Producer: Samantha Peters / Executive Producer: Caroline Wright Angus Deayton hosts a show looking at embarrassing awards ceremonies including clips of Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood and their infamous hosting of the 1989 Brit Awards along with footage of The Spice Girls, Chris Evans, Victoria Wood and Laurence Olivier.
NOT ONLY...BUT ALSO BBC2 / 1x50m-e 14x45m-e 7x30m-e / 1965-70 3 seasons plus one special Writers included Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Robert Fuest, John Law, Dick Clement / Producers: Joe McGrath, Dick Clement, John Street, James Gilbert Sketch based series starring Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. One of the regular highlights of the show were the sketches where Pete 'N' Dud sat and held forth on any number of 'insane' topics which usually saw Dud reduced to fits of giggles. A high calibre of guest stars appeared including John Lennon, Spike Milligan, Ronnie Barker, Alan Bennett, Eric Sykes and Barry Humphries. Many of the shows no longer exist as the BBC decided in their infinite wisdom in the late sixties and early seventies to embark on an extensive junking policy of much of their archive (in order to conserve space and save money on tapes apparently). Not Only...But Also was only one of hundreds of shows to suffer in this way.
NOT SO MUCH A PROGRAMME MORE A WAY OF LIFE BBC1 / 62x45m-e / 1964-65 (13 November 64 - 11 April 65 Friday-Sunday 10.30pm) Producer: Ned Sherrin Late night satire shown thrice weekly and a follow up to That Was The Week That Was. The cast featured John BIrd, John Fortune, David Frost, Eleanor Bron, Michael Crawford, Roy Hudd, Brian Murphy, Willie Rushton and Cleo Laine.
Producer: John Lloyd, Sean Hardie Fast moving often brilliant sketch show with a usually highly topical theme, it starred Mel Smith, Rowan Atkinson, Pamela Stephenson, Chris Langham (season one) and from season two Griff Rhys Jones. Writers on the show included the cast as well Richard Curtis, Andrew Marshall and David Renwick, Colin Bostock-Smith, Rory McGrath, Andy Hamilton, Guy Jenkin, Paul Smith and Terry Kyan, Nigel Planer.
NOW WHAT Carlton-Crucial / 1x30m-e / 1995 (14 August - Monday 8.00pm) Script Editor: Jim Pullin / Executive Producers: Lenny Henry, Polly McDonald / Producer: Lenny Barker A sketch show promoting new talent including Fiona Allen, Angela Wynter, Curtis Walker, Alan D. Marriott and Don Gilet.
N.U.T.S. Yorkshire TV / 6x30m-e / 1976 (14 October - 18 November / Thursday 9.30pm) Creator: Barry Took / Producer: Ronnie Baxter A sketch based series featuring a rare before the camera appearance by early comedy guru Barry Took, also appearing were Roy Kinnear, Chris Emmett, Frederick Jaeger, Dave Evans and Claire Faulconbridge.
NUTS IN MAY BBC / 1x40m-e / 1953 (13 May - Wednesday 8.45pm) black and white Writer: Eric Sykes / Producer: Kenneth Carter One off special for Frankie Howerd that also featured Gilbert Harding and Carole Carr.
O.T.T Central / 13x60m-e / 1982 2 January - 3 April Saturday 11.00pm Producer: Chris Tarrant / Director: Peter Harris Comedy. Late night anarchic version of the children's Saturday Morning show T.I.S.W.A.S. but nowhere near as cohesive (and TISWAS wasn't exactly the most structured show around). O.T.T. stood for Over The Top which summed the show up nicely. The team included Chris Tarrant, Lenny Henry, Bob Carolgees, John Gorman, Alexei Sayle and Helen Atkinson Wood.
OUR HANDS IN YOUR SAFE Granada / 1x35m-e / 1995 27 August Sunday 11.15pm Writer: John Bird, John Fortune / Producer: Vicky Matthews / Director: Sarah Harding. Typical Bird and Fortune satire targeting NHS trusts. Both starred as well as writing.
OUT OF THE TREES BBC2 / 1x30m-e / 1976 10 January Saturday 10.00pm Writers: Graham Chapman, Bernard McKenna, Douglas Adams / Producer: Bernard Thompson One off sketch show in the Monty Python mould and presided over by former Python Graham Chapman. Also appearing were Mark Aitken, Mark Wing-Davey, Tim Preece, Roger Brierley, Jennifer Guy, Simon Jones, Maggie Henderson and Marjie Lawrence.
