Channel 4 / 6x30m-e / 2000 23 March - 27 April Thursday 10.30pm

Controversial Chris Morris in a series of longish sketches (mostly surreal and definitely strange). On Saturday 15 April 2000 at 12.25am re-edited versions were shown (before the series had even ended) under the title Jaaaaam. Also appearing with Morris were Amelia Bullmore, David Cann, Julia Davis, Kevin Eldon and Mark Heap.

 

JANET AND COMPANY

Comedy series. Jasper Carrott finds himself in the dock after being accused of verbally attacking groups of people(Sun readers, Reliant Robin drivers, dieters etc) with his comedy. The show used clips from Carrott's past BBC and LWT shows to present the cases for the Defence and Prosecution.

A near the knuckle stand up show from Jim Davidson onstage at the Victoria Palace Theatre, South London. On 1 October 1999 (Friday 10.20pm) further highlights from the Victoria Palace show were broadcast this time under the title Jim Davidson - A Bit Further Still.

 

THE JIM DAVIDSON SHOW

Thames / 26x30m-e 11x60m-e 1x45m-e / 1979-87 4 seasons plus 15 specials.

This starring vehicle for former New Faces winner Davidson was the usual mixture of sketches and stand up, Davidson gained a bit of a reputation of being slightly un-PC with his gags and made much milage out of his failed marriages and losing his driving license.

Comedy showing supposedly humorous commercials from around the world. This show presented by comic Jo Brand is basically the same show as Jasper Carrott's occasional Carrott's Commercial Breakdown shows.

A comedy and music series starring singing impressionist Joe Longthorne. Regular guests were magician Wayne Dobson (seasons 1-2), Lisa Maxwell (season one) and Kelly Monteith( season 3). Longthorne of Romany stock has had his battles to face with trouble both from the taxman and having to deal with cancer.

A one off special for the strangely high pitched voiced Pasquale. Special guest was Eric Sykes. Pasquale's act consisted of telling twee jokes and singing silly songs (like I Know a song that'll get on your nerves - which consists of the same line repeated ad infinitum).

Highlights of the annual Montreal Festival of Comedy, most of Britain's top comedy acts have appeared at one time or another. From 1997 the series has been known as Festival of Fun and has been seen on Channel 5 and Paramount.

KALEIDOSCOPE

BBC / x60m-e / 1946-53 Shown fortnightly

A magazine style mixture of sketch and stand up mixed in with general entertainment. Tony Hancock's first starring role came in a five week segment of the show called Fools Rush In. Dick Emery also made his TV debut on this show (13 June 1952).

 

KATE AND TED'S SHOW

The Liverpudlian comic and former ventriloquist has starred in many series, Dodd also had a number of hit singles during the 1960's including a No 1 with the sentimental Tears.

KENNY EVERETT (1944-95)

The gay Liverpudlian disc jockey turned comedian was a big name from the late sixties onwards and had several popular starring shows. All featured highly anarchic sketches . Among Everett's most popular characters were Cupid Stunt, Brother Lee Love, Marcel Wave, Gizzard Puke and Sid Snot.

Ere - Stop Messin' About. Sketch series (which was Kenneth Williams' only such series). Joan Sims was a regular. In 1976 Williams returned with a one off special broadcast 21 January, David Nobbs was amongst the writers and Lance Percival and Anna Karen both guest starred.
