A quick fire tour around little Britain, a strange place where daffy Thomas is the only gay in town ( “ I always thought Captain Peacock was the gay one in Are You Being Served” ), where government aide Sebastian Love has a mad crush on the Prime Minister and where delinquent teenager Vicky Pollard runs riot. “No but yeah but no but what I mean right is Little Britain is the best UK comedy since The League of Gentlemen, deliriously funny, intensely clever and a tour de force of great comic acting (almost all the main roles are played by Walliams and Lucas and they really are good actors) . Little Britain (seen first on the BBC 3 digital channel before switching to the main BBC channel) is hard to classify, from its portentous but ridiculous voice over from Tom Baker to it’s often sick sketches of transvestites, non disabled disabled people and the wicked Dame Barbara Cartland take off, it takes place in a kind of everywhere Britain that contains much that is recognizable. The show debuted on BBC Radio 4 on 12 February 2002 and the show was one of the programs that formed part of BBC3's launch night on Sunday 9 February 2003. MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS

Producer: (mostly) Ian MacNaughton

The sketch show par excellence, influential beyond imagining. Written by the cast, John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Eric Idle and Terry Gilliam. The show, full of surreal moments and non-sequitors seemed to hit the times exactly and many of the sketches (Dead Parrot, Nudge Nudge etc) have passed into folklore. All of the Pythons went on to have other successes in films and TV. During the final season Cleese departed (to work on Fawlty Towers with then wife Connie Booth) and some material for this final season was written by the brilliant Douglas Adams and also Neil Innes (who also made occasional appearances in the show). Many famous names lined up to appear (often in plays ' what Ernie had wrote' ) including Glenda Jackson, Shirley Bassey, John Thaw and Dennis Waterman, Andre Previn, Peter Cushing and Diana Rigg to name just a few. The pairs annual Christmas specials were an integral part of the festive period for most people during the seventies. Eventually after ten classic years at the beeb, the pair decided to switch over to the commercial channel (with Thames - see next entry).
