THE CUT A Little Bit of Biff

Beginning on Monday 23 February on ABC1 is what promises to be one of the real hits of the year. The Cut, which stars John Wood and comes from the pen of the legendary John Misto, focuses on the world of sports management and in particular well dodgy agent "Wild" Bill Telford (played by Wood in best larrikin style).

In the series opener (it's a 6 part series) Wild Bill is holidaying in Bangkok, Thailand when he is caught up in a terrorist bomb attack and then whilst helping save two fellow Aussie tourists he suffers a heart attack and ends up in critical condition in hospital back in Oz. His son Andrew, who is working in London rushes home to try and look after his father's business interests whilst he is recovering.

He is quite literally thrown in at the deep end when two of Bill's clients, one of whom is superstar footy player Jason Kerslake, get caught up in a brawl over a supposed groupie, as Andrew tries to smooth things over he discovers that his father is one of the key figures in an internet gambling con.

Setting things up nicely this first episode shows much promise Andrew quickly meets up with old flame, feisty Naomi (Eloise Oxer) and despite the fact that Andrew has a partner back in the UK and Naomi is engaged it is clear that there is going to be fireworks aplenty between these two.

There is some cracking dialogue too, funny and catching the moment - Misto says he spent three years working on the 6 scripts. Filmed in and around some of Sydney's most prominent sporting and drinking venues The Cut is definitely one to watch out for.
