Bizarre mixture of sitcom/talk show and lifestyle magazine show telling stories of a writer who invited friends round to chat and maybe get involved with a spot of redecoration or D-I-Y. It sounds strange but that's because it was.

Anthology series of prestigious productions, Arthur Hailey was among the contributors (with Time Lock on 3 October 56 and Seeds of Power 3 October 57). Actors in the productions included Patrick MacNee, Katherine Blake, Lloyd Bochner and Everett Sloane.

Scifi drama series. A group of aliens are planning an Earth take over and are experimenting on humans to see if they can be easily taken over - Cade Foster is one such guinea pig, he survives their brutal experiments and embarks on a quest to fight the aliens. The title came from a prophecy by Nostradamus specifying that the end of the world would be in three waves.

FLIGHT INTO DANGER

Long running panel based game show in which the four panelists (after seeing a short film full of clues) tried to guess the identity of a mystery guest. Hosted by Win Barron and Fred Davies.

An anthology of generally highbrow drama productions.

 

FUN TIME

CBC / x30m-e / 1956-57 ( 5 July 56 - 1 February 57/ Thursdays 5.30pm then Fridays 5.00pm)

Children's variety. Captain Frank (and his parrot Matey) have fun on his Fun Time Showboat. Other regulars included kids Alan Jack and June Mack along with magician Tom Auburn.

 

THE GALLOPING GOURMET

CBC-CJOHTV-Fremantle / x30m-e / 1968-72 (30 December 68 - 14 January 72)

Producer: Treena Kerr

Very popular cooking show presented by the lively Graham Kerr. Kerr had started on Australian Television before moving to Canada for this show which was Syndicated in the US and sold around the world. Kerr retired at the end of 1971 after being involved in a car accident. Kerr, who used to pride himself on the richness of his food, has latterly made a few appearances extolling the virtues of healthy living.

Music series starring singers Jodie Drake and Gene Di Nori (who also played piano). Also appearing were Jerry Fuller on drums and Michael Donato on bass.   

 

GENERAL MOTORS PRESENTS

Anthology series that tried to make a point of featuring Canadian material as its basis. Several of the productions were also broadcast in the US under the title Encounter. Actors appearing included Patrick MacNee, Barry Morse and Donald Davis.

Anthology series of dramas that often featured the very best Canadian talent including the likes of Arthur Hailey with Flight Into Danger and also Stanley Mann.

 

GERRY AND ZIZ

Variety show starring singer Gerry Paquin and Gerard 'Ziz' Jean. Also appearing were Jay Brazeau and David Gillies.

A children's show featuring young actors in various fairy tale type plays. The series was in the style of Elizabethan theatre from which the series took its name.

Variety series headlined by a ten piece ensemble called The Group also featured were Karen Marklinger, Reg Gibson and wonderfully titled The Sassy Brass of Bob McMullin.

Panel game show with three celebrities trying to guess the identity of a mystery guest. The program Front Page Challenge grew out of this show.

Summer anthology series based on theatre and radio originals. 

 

GUILTY OR NOT GUILTY

Panel based game show hosted by lawyer Duncan Crux in which a jury made a decision about a trial they had just seen. The trials featured were all based on actual cases.
