NITRO BURNIN' FUNNY DADDY - BRIAN SETZER
Distributor: Collision Records

Reviewer: BF

Stray Cats leader Brian Setzer is still rocking like a 16 year old after 25 years in the business and on his new album Nitro Burnin’ Funny Daddy is actually on top form.

Pulling in all the familiar Stray Cats elements Sezter mixes Bluegrass, Hillbilly, full on doo-wop, 50’s style balladry and above all else Da Blooze. Backed by Johnny Hatton on stand up Slap Bass and Bernie Dresel on drums and percussion Setzer approaches his new album almost with a jazz tinged mindset, his trademark guitar all over the album like Miles Davis’s trumpet.

Lyrically Setzer also seems a bit more honest this time, laying open his feelings on relationships and even spirituality, definitely worth a listen.

Also worthy of mention is the great little version of Sinatra’s Luck Be A Lady included as a bonus single, pretty funky, this track is being used as the theme tune to the James Caan TV series Las Vegas .
