DUMBING UP - WORLD PARTY

Distributor: Seaview
Available to buy from 2 May 2006.

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

It's good to have him back.... for a while there it looked like Karl Wallinger's World Party had gone the way of all flesh, but the man who almost had his split in two by an aneurism and most of his band stolen by Robbie Williams has managed to get back on

the bus. It's four years since Dumbing Up was barely released in the UK, World Party's label Ensign had been swallowed up in corporate games and the album was released on the small papillon label, Wallinger has been hard at work remastering and revitalising the album though, even adding two new tracks.

World Party has always channelled the spirit of the late sixties and early 70's and Dumbing Up is certainly no exception, with a very similar vibe to their legendary second album Goodbye Jumbo, Dumbing Up opens with Another 1000 Years which is the best friend of the Beatles song Baby You're A Rich Man whilst elsewhere there are echoes of the Stones, Sly and Dylan.

There is much to enjoy with Dumbing Up, stand outs include What Does It Mean Now? Here Comes The Future, You're A Hurricane and I'm a Caravan and I Thought You Were a Spy. The sleeve notes are a riot too with Wallinger looking to create his SeaviewTV world with 3 billion channels and 55 hours of news a day, very funny. The album also comes initially with a bonus DVD offering over two hours of videos and interviews.

FINAL VERDICT

legend in the making.
