THE DON LANE SHOW 8 DISC SET
Umbrella Entertainment | Region: 4 | Release Date: 8 December 2010
From 1975 to 1983 The Don Lane Show was a must see late night chat/entertainment show presided over by American Don Lane, helped out by Mr Moonface himself Bert Newton, this eight disc set pulls together some of the best moments of the series across 16 full episodes from the much loved series.
Morton Donald Isaacson, better known as Don Lane, an American who spent years working the US club circuit, probably never imagined that he would become one of Australia’s best loved entertainers, the Lank Yank initially was only contracted for six weeks but after attracting a huge audience with his easy going style he more or less stayed for good.
This collection of material from The Don Lane Show is great fun, entertaining, nostalgic and a reminder of how good TV used to be. The repartee between Lane and his sidekick Bert Newton (who didn’t even know each other before starting the show) is just great and there is plenty of footage of their opening show clowning.
Over the years Lane attracted pretty much just about everybody onto his show from Paul Hogan, Robert De Niro, Kirk Douglas, Cloris Leachman, Peter Allen, Normie Rowe, Kamahl, Dusty Springfield, Dick Emery, Billy Connolly, Stevie Wonder, Simon & Garfunkel, Demis Roussos, The Village People, Hall & Oates and even The Osmond Family.
Lane is a good old fashioned song and dance man and The Don Lane Show is good old fashioned variety, Lane himself was rightly proud of the show remarking “The eight and a half years of that television show is firmly embedded in the minds of many people, and firmly branded into the heads of us. Those were very special years, and to have that all come together meant so much to all of us.”
