The
age of chivalry is not dead
after all. Well, at least not in
Stefan Schwartz's romantic
comedy, set in late 18th century
Ireland.
In 1700’s Ireland the law was
that the eldest sons inherited
everything whilst any younger
sons either entered the
priesthood or married
well. This movie is based
on the true events of the
younger sons who banded together
to form the ‘Abduction
Club”. The idea of this
club was to abduct wealthy
unmarried women and to persuade
them to be married to one of the
younger sons. Once consent
is obtained they are married
thereby not giving their
families the opportunity to do
anything about it.
He
Says: Quite a surprising
and enjoyable film. Not being a
fan of period dramas, I expected
a drab performance full of
boring actors faffing around in
uncomfortable costumes, however
the skill of the actors and the
well written story based on true
events, turned this into a film
I watched twice
She
Says: Expecting a
crappy movie I was surprised by
how much I enjoyed this movie.
The scenery was stunning and the
main characters were very
likeable, the fact that they
were good looking didn’t hurt
either. This was a funny
and charming movie that left me
with a pleasant feeling once it
ended.
