ALEXANDRA'S PROJECT
Released by 20TH Century Fox. Available to rent now.

This compelling new Australian movie will give everyone involved in a relationship food for thought.

Basically a two hander starring Gary Sweet and Helen Buday Alexandra’s project is not your run of the mill film, compromising, sometimes difficult to watch but always interesting and guaranteed to stay in your head for some time after it is over.

Businessman Steve is expecting his wife Alexandra and two pre teen children to throw him a surprise birthday party, arriving home from work to a house in darkness Sweet finds only a TV screen and a video tape saying “play me”.

Steve settles down to watch the tape and initially all is good as his wife and kids wish him a happy birthday but once the kids are out of the way things change, Alexandra begins to perform a striptease but then begins to spill out all the things that are wrong with their marriage. Not only that she has rigged up their house so that Steve cannot leave and cannot stop the videotape.

Sweet’s role is not that easy to make sympathetic as he has to spend most of the movie emoting to a TV screen and Buday’s role is probably the easier of the two as she gets to call the shots but then having to spend most of the film naked and being very confrontational about it could not have been easy but Buday certainly shows she is willing to go the distance.

The final third of the film sees a number of intriguing plot twists added to the mix that altar your perception of both of the leads. Definitely a film worth watching!
