ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL Series One Volume Two

This release from Roadshow Entertainment is a three disc set and follows up the recent volume one set. It features the final 7 episodes of season one. The first three disc  set laid out the premise of the series with newly qualified vet James Herriot arriving to work for the irascible Seigfried Farnon in the Yorkshire town of Darrowby in the 1930’s. By episode 7, where this set begins, James is comfortably settled in as one of the trio of vets in the practice (the other being Seigfried’s younger and somewhat foolish brother Tristan) , the main thrust of these episodes is James’ wooing of local girl Helen Alderson, daughter of a local farmer, James had to win her father round before getting permission to marry Helen, which of course he manages to do, despite one or two hiccups along the way. Other plotlines include James being made a partner by Seigfried and Tristan and James not only  crashing Seigfrieds expensive new car but also Tristan having to face upto the fact that his partying has played havoc with his attempts to pass his vets exams.

All Creatures is definitely one of the BBC’s best loved series and wonderful comfort viewing with great scenery, heartwarming plotlines and a cast clearly having fun (in fact it’s not just the main cast that are worth watching but also the wonderful supporting cast of eccentric farmers that the vets have to call upon).

Very enjoyable and with a high re-watchability factor. Roll on series 2.
