CHEERS: Season One in a 4 disc set.

Released by Paramount. Out now to buy.

One of TV's best loved comedies gets a DVD Release thanks to Paramount with the complete season one released in a four disc set.
Ted Danson was appearing in Taxi at the time of Cheers' inception but quickly made the role of Sam Malone, recovering alcoholic and former pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, into his own. Sam owned a bar called Cheers in downtown Boston and the heart of
the series lay in his love hate relationship with intelligent, graduate student Diane Chambers who in the first episode (Give Me A Ring Sometime) gets a job at the bar. Sam was desperate to get Diane into bed whilst she in turn was never sure of her feelings for Sam. Around this was built a cast of fantastic supporting characters including Ernie "Coach" Pantuggo played by
Nicholas Colasanto. Coach was brilliant, just the right side of stupid but with a heart of gold. Then there were perennial bar propper uppers Norm and Cliff (played by George Wendt and John Ratzenberger) , Norm was an accountant with a witty line for every occasion whilst Cliff was a postman who was convinced that he was incredibly intelligent... he wasn't. Rounding them
out was the barmaid Carla, acid tongued, streetwise antithesis of Diane.
A great show with classic laughs to be had in every episode. Not to be missed.
EXTRAS: All to be found on disc four include a revealing interview with Ted Danson (who obviously has very fond memories of his time on the show), three mini features include a fantastic Stormin' Normism's section consisting of the one liners used by Norm as he enters the bar and classic Coach moments and a profile of Sam and Diane's relationship. Very funny. There is also an excellent trivia game utilising clips from the series to show whether you guessed right or wrong.
