Keri
Russell stars as Felicity Porter
in this engaging series which
ran from 1998 to 2002. Now
thanks to Beauna Vista we can
take a look at every episode
from season one, including the
pilot episode.
Using
the handy device of
audiocassette letters to a
friend Felicity narrates her
experiences of being a naive
freshman at the
University
of
New York
in
Manhattan
’s
Greenwich Village
.
Believing
that a boy, Ben Covington, she
has a crush on feels the same
way about her, Felicity decides
to leave her Californian home
(much to the dismay of her
parents) and pursue him to
New York
. Unfortunately Ben is not
romantically interested in
Felicity. (The pilot episode
also has a commentary from the
shows creators J.J. Abrahams and
Matt Reeves helping explain the
genesis of the show and also how
the series Alias which they also
created emerged as they tossed
around ideas to keep the show
fresh)
Felicity
elects to stay on in
New York
though and her relationship with
Ben or lack of it at times is at
the heart of the series. Other
key characters in the show
include best friend Julie
(played by Amy Jo Johnson), Dorm
advisor Noel (who just happens
to have a crush on Felicity) and
would be entrepreneur Richard.
These circle of friends fall in
love, fall out of love and
learn life lessons. The series
builds throughout the series and
by episode 22 Felicity is
heading towards having to choose
between Ben and Noel.
Felicity
is an enjoyable series looking
at the world through the eyes of
a young woman on a journey of
self discovery.
Extras:
This is a very well put together
set, six discs in three double
jewel cases (contained in an
attractive box), cutting down on
the bulkiness and shelf space
consuming of many other sets,
main extras come in the form of
audio commentaries from the
shows creators J.J. Abrahams and
Matt Reeves on the pilot episode
and on episode 22 Felicity Was
Here.
