THE HITCH HIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY

Definitely what DVD's were invented for, this release of Hitch-Hikers comes in a two disc set choc full of extras.  Initally a radio series on the BBC in 197 before going on to conquer the world in book form Hitch-hikers finally hit the small screen in 1981 with all of the humour and most of the characters intact, I'm sure everyone knows the plot of Earthling Arthur Dent being taken on a journey through space and time by his friend Ford Prefect after the Earth is demolished to make way for a new hyperspace bypass.
Although some might find it a little dated now in terms of effects (lets face it the two headed Zaphod Beeblebrox never really worked anyway) it is still fantastically funny and a must for everyone's collection.

THE DVD
The extras in this release take up an entire disc on their own and are fantastic, easily the equal of the show itself, it includes the 1993 hour long documentary on the making of the show by Kevin Davies, plus a 20 minute bonus of outtakes from that documentary called Don't Panic. Their is the introduction by Peter Jones for the screening of the first episode at the NT (this has never been seen since that showing), a behind the scenes look at the making of the radio series, the original BBC trailers for the series, one or two deleted scenes, a great sequence showing the last ten minutes of studio filming for Episode Two when lines needing to be completed and time was fast running out, a great clip from Tomorrow's World showing how the second head of Zaphod worked (or didn't as was usually the case) and a clip from the chat show Pebble Mill at One featuring an interview with director Alan J.W Bell and animator Rod Lord, besides all this wonderful stuff there is a selection of out takes and a photo gallery.
