Certainly
not a contender for film of the
year, this dim-witted supposed
comedy features a cast of well
known Australian faces making
fools of themselves. The plot
sees Marcus Graham as
horse trainer Max McKendrick
facing a lifetime ban for
getting involved in fixing a
race. When he finds himself and
his new wife being ostracised by
their wealthy circle of friends
he hatches a plan to make
himself a fortune as well as
regain his place within the
racing fraternity. This of
course doesn’t go to plan and
before you know it there are
bodies piling up all over the
place.
Director
Stavros Kazantzidis (who also
wrote the script) obviously
believes the more there is going
on the better and although the
plot follows the convention of
farce it is just too nasty to be
funny,is this what the
film-makers believe best
represents an image of Australia
to the world with extortion,
blackmail, murder, drug-taking,
adultery, bad sex scenes,
swearing, stealing, kidnapping
and wanton greed at the expense
of all morals.
With
a cast that includes Abbie
Cornish as Becky, Jason Donovan
as sex mad accountant Henry and
even Jason’s dad Terence
Donovan you would have expected
more but it’s left to Bill
Hunter as foul mouthed trainer
Barry Coxhead to salvage any
merit from the movie.
