MONDO! MONDO! MONDO!

THE VAMPIRE (Mexico 1957)
One of the best Dracula's ever Abel Salazar plays Count Lavud in this black and white subtitled classic, the plot has the Count travelling to Mexico to try and bring to life his dead brother and ends up terrorising the small village where his brother is buried. Interestingly made a full year before the more famous Hammer version of Dracula and certainly it's equal. All of these releases from Mondo Macabro have great extras and this one has a fascinating documentary on Mexican horror flicks as well as a great photo-novel of the sequel movie. You can also choose to watch the movie either in a dubbed version or with English subtitles.

THE NUDE PRINCESS (Italy 1976)
Famed American soft porn actress Ajita Wilson stars in this supposedly raunchy Emmanuelle style movie. Ajita plays an African diplomat in Milan for a trade delegation but she is soon involved in all manner of naughtiness as the secrets of her past come to light. The beautiful Tina Aumont co-stars and there is a very funky soundtrack indeed. Extras include a great interview with Tina Aumont called Ten Years in Another Town, detailed production notes, a poster gallery and optional subtitles.

DR JEKYLL VERSUS THE WEREWOLF (Spain 1972)
Paul Naschy stars as Waldemar the Wolfman in one of the strangest films I have ever seen, this was the fifth time Naschy had played the character in fact and in this one he is on the loose in seventies prime glam era London, whilst looking for a cure for his hairyness he bumps into Dr Jekyll (as you do) who manages to inject him with a serum that turns him into a rampaging killer. This is a great film that has to be seen to be believed. Extras include a fantastic interview with star Naschy and cast and crew biogs as well as the standard Mondo optional subtitles or dubbed feature.

AWAKENING OF THE BEAST (Brazil 1969)
This film by Jose Mojica Marins
and starring himself as Coffin Joe is definitely not for the faint hearted, banned in Brazil for 20 years it follows the misfortunes of a group of swingers who after having taken LSD find themselves caught up in the nightmarish world of a claw handed fiend called Coffin Joe. This is a sometimes hard to watch film but is very psychedelic, extras include a great documentary about Coffin Joe and Brazilian horror films in general, extensive production notes and the subtitles or not subtitles option.

MYSTICS IN BALI (Indonesia 1981)
A bizarre film that makes the films mentioned above look like standard Sunday night fare. Very strange and very very gory to boot the plot concerns a young American woman holidaying in Bali and getting mixed up with a local black magic cult. The cast includes Ilona Agathe bastian, Yos Santo, WD Moctar, Debbie Cinthia dewi (and other equally well known names).Extras include an indepth documentary on Indonesian exploitation films, production details, cast filmographies and the subtitles option.
