Acorn
Media UK bring us a
a piece of classic detective
drama with Ian Carmichael's
portrayal of Lord Peter Wimsey
in the BBC 1973 serial Murder
Must Advertise.
This four part serial sees
Wimsey putting on his best
Bertie Wooster impersonation to
investigate the death of a
writer at an advertising agency.
Posing as Death Bredon Wimsey
goes undercover at Pym's
Publicity determined to get to
the heart of the mystery.
Murder Must Advertise has the
classic BBC look, filmed
exteriors and videotaped studio
interiors and Acorn have done an
excellent job transferring it to
DVD, initially coming on like a
1920's flapper party the
production steps up a gear as
Wimsey gets closer to the truth.
Boasting a fine supporting cast
including turns from a young
Paul Darrow and an equally young
Christopher Timothy as well as
appearances by Mark Eden, Peter
Bowles, Robin Bailey, Gwne
Taylor and Timeslip's Spencer
Banks.
THE
DVD
Nicely
packaged this two disc set by Acorn
Media has some great
extras including a sweet
interview with an ageing Ian
Carmichael talking about his
time on the show as well as
Trivia pages, cast filmographies
and scene indexing. The set is also
available as a VHS
release too.
