They
say if you can remember the
sixties then you probably
weren't there - well if this
series from Acorn
Media UK is
anything to go by then I for one
wish I was, with a cool and hip
soundtrack mixing classic tracks
from the likes of The Hollies
and The Swinging Blue Jeans and
original songs by the fictional
group at the heart of the series
The Ice Cubes.
Originally seen on BBC TV in
1999 this fantastic 6 part
serial had a pop band (the afore
mentioned Ice Cubes) turning up
in a drab northern town in 1965
to play a gig and chagnge
forever the lives of two
sisters, the shy and smart Ellie
and the upfront Arden.
The girls (who live with their
widowed father and domineering
grandmother) end up heading for
the bright lights of London,
Ellie has a talent for writing
songs and inbetween falling in
love with the Ice Cubes lead
singer Dallas Mccabe comes up
with a potential number one for
the band, if only their
"dodgy" manager
doesn't get in the way.
The series boasts an excellent
cast with Gillian kearney and
Emma Cooke as Ellie and Arden
Brookes, Joseph McFadyen as
Dallas McCabe and also the likes
of Phil Daniels, Sue Johnstone
and David Threllfall.THE

including the music video for
the Ice Cubes song I Want
