TIPPING THE VELVET

Kaleidoscope film bring us one of the most controversial TV productions of recent times with Tipping The Velvet.
Adapted by Andrew Davies from the novel by Sarah Waters Tipping the Velvet is your typical Sunday Night BBC1 costume drama but with the two main characters being cross dressing lesbians, Rachel Stirling (daughter of Diana Rigg and sounding just like her mum) plays Nan who chances to see a performance by male impersonator Kitty Butler (played by the gorgeous Keeley Hawes), Nan is immediately smitten and takes a job as Kitty's dresser, it isn't too long before the pair are involved in a steamy passionate affair, later Nan finds her stuck in the Victorian sexual underworld as the plaything of a wealthy lady.

THE DVD
Despite the controversy that the UK tabloids kicked up (reams of articles were written about the show and its subject matter before it even aired) Tipping the Velvet is well worth adding to the collection of anyone interested in quality drama. Being such a new show picture and sound are top notch of course, extras on this single disc include an indepth interview with writers Andrew Davies and Sarah Waters as well as extensive photo gallery and the usual scene selection.
