Since
she first hit the scene almost
10 years ago with the insanely
catchy All I Wanna Do Sheryl
Crown has always been able to
walk the line between being a
down home country girl and sexy
rock chick. Obviously the time
has been deemed ripe for a
greatest hits collection Crow
having been quiet somewhat of
late and Universal has cleverly
released both the audio cd
version and the DVD together
(the DVD has a couple of tracks
less than the CD).
Musically
Crow can’t be faulted and at
times her songs carry echo’s
of 1970’s icons like Gram
Parsons and even acts like
Fleetwood Mac in their Rumours
heyday. Stand out tracks
include the gorgeous Soak Up the
Sun, My Favorite Mistake and
Steve McQueen.
The
DVD is a straight run through of
Crow’s videos. These are
always atmospheric, from moody
black and white straight into
the microphone videos to big
budget horse in the desert to
think pieces like the endangered
species video of If It Makes You
Happy and the moody Home,
best of all though is the remake
of Bullet for the clip of the
great bluesy single Steve
McQueen. As the rise of Britney
took hold Crow bought into the
getting sexier to sell more
records shtick but has latterly
gone back to her roots, new song
on both CD and DVD The First Cut
is the Deepest is a laid back
country version of the Cat
Stevens classic.
As
with all greatest hits packages
this is the perfect primer for
anyone interested in learning
more about Crow’s music and
for her fans who want all the
hits in one handy package.
