The Diamond Hunters has all the hallmarks of Wilbur Smith, money, power, sexual intrigue and family honour.

When wealthy diamond miner Jacob Van der Byl (the strong father who rules his family with an iron fist) tells his son “Johnny” that he is in fact adopted it sets in motion a chain of events spanning 20 odd years and a determination that Johnny will prove his true worth.

Cut to 22 years later and Johnny is now a man and out to make his mark in the world, he hasn’t seen the Van der Byl family for 22 years but re-enters their lives at the wedding of his adoptive sister Tracey. To his surprise old man Jacob offers Johnny a job with his company, but with trouble at every turn from his “brother” Benedict and a growing love for Tracey Johnny’s problems are far from easy.

This South African set drama was originally a two part TV Movie and it does show at times but is helped by an attractive looking cast that includes Sean Patrick Flannery as Johnny, a pre Charmed  Alyssa Milano as Tracey along with the likes of Jolene Blalock (now riding high in Andromeda) and Roy Scheider (who plays the hard old Jacob Van der Byl very well).
