With mainstream cinema becoming ever more explicit youd think Basic Instinct would have lot some of its power but it really
hasnt. Made in 1992 the movie stars Michael Douglas (in his full sexaholic persona) as San Francisco murder squad detective Nick Curran who whilst investigating the murder of a rock star discovers that author Catherine Trammell (Sharon Stone) is prime suspect having just written a book (as yet unpublished) in which a murder occurs in exactly the same way, events become very murky as Curran begins a full on affair with Trammell.
Basic Instinct created a huge buzz on its cinema release, made a huge $120 million at the box office, had
womens rights up in arms over it misogyny, gay rights up in arms over its homophobia, acres of news coverage about its high nudity content and the infamous Sharon Stone knickerless police interrogation scene, consequently of course it was a must see movie. |
