This movie from the Alexanda Korda film studio and made in 1945 tells the story of
Cleopatras involvement with Julius Caesar and how his murder spoils he plans to gain power in the Roman Empire
based on the play by the verbose George Bernard Shaw the movie more than stands up against the more famous Elizabeth Taylor version, Vivien Leigh (who was already going through some severe traumas in her life, mental problems, TB etc) makes a beautiful Cleopatra whilst Claude Rains is a stately Caesar.
The major plus of this movie though is the fantastic supporting cast which includes the cream of British acting talent, names like Stewart Granger, Flora Robson, Francis L Sullivan, Basil Sydney, Cecil Parker and Stanley Holloway. |
