CHEERS SEASON 2

Released by Paramount. 4 Disc Set.

SAM: it wasnt four women, it was four hundred women, easy
DIANE: Theyd have to be

Following the success of their release of season one Paramount quickly follow it up with anther four disc helping of classic cheers.  Season two picks up exactly where season one left off with Sam and Diane about to get it on;  Their more often off than on relationship runs right through the heart of the 22 episodes that made up season two. Sam is always convinced he has the measure of Diane but of course Diane has him exactly where she wants him, by the end of this season two the pair are on the verge of splitting (covered in the two parter Ill Be Seeing You).

All the other regulars are still on board of course, Norm (George Wendt) and Cliff (John Ratzenberger) are still propping up the bar (Cliff, a non regular in season one is here granted regular character status, appearing in the opening titles for the first time), the denser than ever Coach and the acerbic Carla (Rhea Perlman) who this season gives birth to her fifth child despite the fact that her ex-husband Nick (Dan Hedati) is about to get remarried. As soon as you hear the opening bars of the great theme tune you always know you are in for a real treat. Cheers is great!

EXTRAS: There is some good stuff in this release, all found on disc four, best of them is Strictly Top Shelf: The Guys Behind the Bar a short (10 minute) doco on the shows creators Glen Charles, Les Charles and James Burrowes, this is excellent featuring as it does clips from a September 1983 edition of Entertainment Tonight as well as new contributions from the cast. There is also a short feature on the wit and wisdom of postman extraordinaire Cliff Clavin, two other short features include Carla The Comeback Queen and Di Another Day: Diane Chambers From A-Z, these 3 clip driven segments also feature new contributions from the cast. There is also a shortish blooper reel.
