Pretty bizarre but occasionally funny Billy Bob Thornton (who not only stars but also writes and directs) vehicle about a highly disfunctional mid western family. Billy Bob plays Claude Montgomery whilst Laura Dern is his wife Ruby, the first 20 minutes of the film consists of Ruby accusing Claude of having an affair with her sister and him denying it, the movie then develops as Claude learns that his Uncle Hazel has been arrested on an attempted murder charge, Claude and Ruby quickly head for for the family homestead to lend their support, along with the rest of the eccentric Montgomery clan.
Very wordy and often crude Daddy and Them does have its moments and the cast is undeniably strong including as it does Kelly Preston, Brenda Blethyn, Andy Griffith, Ben Affleck and Jamie Lee Curtis. |
