A pretty unusual premise marks this Garry Marshall feel good flick as something worth watching. Made in 1997 and on release now from Paramount; Greg Kinnear stars as petty crook Tom Turner who, thanks to the intervention of a judge giving him the option of work or prison, finds himself employed to sort the mail at a Post Office Dead Letter Office.
Realising there is the opportunity for a scam Tom begins to answer some of the hundreds of letters addressed to God (in the hope of receiving some kind of recompense back in the post) and even performing a few small scale
miracles in the process, things start to get out of hand though when the public and press turn the whole Dear God thing into a high profile event. |
