DEAR GOD

Released by Paramount. Out now to buy.

A pretty unusual premise marks this Garry Marshall feel good flick as something worth watching.  Made in 1997 and on release now from Paramount; Greg Kinnear stars as petty crook Tom Turner who, thanks to the intervention of a judge giving him the option of work or prison, finds himself employed to sort the mail at a Post Office Dead Letter Office.

Realising there is the opportunity for a scam Tom begins to answer some of the hundreds of letters addressed to God (in the hope of receiving some kind of recompense back in the post) and even performing a few small scale miracles in the process, things start to get out of hand though when the public and press turn the whole Dear God thing into a high profile event.

Occasionally on the schmaltzy side this is still nonetheless entertaining stuff, full of good comic performances not just from Kinnear but also the likes of Laurie Metcalfe and the always excellent Hector Elizondo. Worth a look.

No Extras.
