DISCO PIGS

Released by The AV Channel. A He Says She Says Review by Knowles and Knowles.

Story Pig (Cillian Murphy) and Runt (Elaine Cassidy) were born on the same day in the same hospital and they grew up next door to each other.  This close proximity to each other has led to the development of an extraordinary bond with each other to the exclusion of the outside world.  As they approach their 17th birthdays Sinead/Runt starts to develop an interest in other young men this happens to coincide with Darren/Pig suddenly realising that Runt is actually a beautiful girl, not just his playmate.  As Pig feels Runt slipping away from him and developing interests away from him his grip on reality begins to slip and he degenerates further and further into violent moodiness.

Her View This was a really dark and rather unsettling movie.  The use of the language that Pig and Runt developed between themselves meant that much of the dialogue was incomprehensible and what you could actually understand was really odd.  The young lead actors were both very beautiful and talented.

They managed to carry a movie that was fraught with emotion.  Cillian Murphy was scarily convincing, as the tortured young man who completely loses his grip on reality and Elaine Cassidy is fascinating to watch as the extent of her best friends madness begins to dawn on her.  This was not an easy movie to watch, but it has certainly made an impression and wont be forgotten in a hurry.

His View Disco Pigs is not a movie for the faint hearted, full on violence is shown with stunning force. When Pig starts to get carried away Runt calms him down, but when they are separated he escalates, unable to stop the rage. I got the feeling that Pig had an underlying psychological condition, by the single-mindedness and out of reality behaviour he displayed. It was sad when Runt finally recognises this and although she can move on she is aware that Pig cannot and she makes the decision to take action. Although the dialog and accents were hard to follow, both the actors did well in conveying the story.

Extras include A Behind the scenes documentary on the movie and the original theatrical trailer (interesting to see how this movie is marketed).
