THE EDUCATION OF LITTLE TREE
Distributor: Paramount Entertainment
Cast: Joseph Ashton, James Cromwell, Graham Green
Extras: No
Easter Eggs: No

What a wonderful little movie The Education Of Little Tree is, a warm hearted family movie (something of a rarity these days) set in the Snowy Mountains of Tennessee during the depressed 1930’s .

Joseph Ashton is the little tree of the tittle a young (8 years old) Cherokee Indian boy who has to go and live with his grandparents in the mountains following the death of his parents. His grandfather ( very laid back and excellent performance from James Cromwell) sets about teaching Little Tree the ways of the mountains, only to have the authorities coming to try and send Little Tree to a state boarding school.

A great movie, originally made in 1996, that is not afraid to show the harsher side of life and the lessons that you learn (Little Tree buys a calf which promptly dies on him) and Ashton as Little Tree is a little charmer.

Graham Greene pops up as mystical Cherokee seer Willow John. The only downside is its lack of extras but a nice family watch nonetheless.
