A
classic 1970’s Disney tale of
a pair of orphans who have
amazing mental powers
(telekinesis, telepathy,
levitation) and an ability to
read the future, unsure of their
past young Tia (Kim Richards
from Nanny and the Professor)
and Tony (Ike Eisenmann from
Fantastic Journey) find
themselves befriended by the
sinister millionaire Aristotle
Bolt (a slimy Ray Milland) and
his main henchman Lucas (Donald
Pleasence) who plans to use the
kids for his own devious ends.
Tony and Tia escape in search of their past and traces of
their family, along the way they are helped by kindly Eddie Albert
followed of course by the villainous Bolt. It would be unfair to say too
much more of the plotline if you are unfamiliar with it safe to say
there are more than a few surprises as to the real identity of Tia and
Tony.
Hugely enjoyable, not just for kids either, a proper family
film from back in the day when we still used to make films for the
entire family, special effects, although of a 1970’s vintage still
hold up surprisingly well and the film certainly look sharp enough,
those Californian locations look pretty gorgeous.
Mixing in elements of fantasy, comedy and adventure Escape
to WitchMountain was a big hit and
was followed up the following year by Return From Witch Mountain.
