Beginning
in 1989 and continuing for four
years Fast Forward quickly
became one of Australia’s best
remembered (and pretty high
rating) comedy shows.
Pretty frenetic
and because of it’s super fast bang bang style containing as many
misses as hits, Fast Forward is a real nostalgia feast, especially as a
lot of the sketches focused on the issues and fads of the day –
witness the sending up of American Express ultra expensive late 1980’s
ads. This is also one of the shows faults though too as some of
the material is a little dated, no longer being relevant and some of the
people targeted have long since faded into obscurity.
But
that’s pretty much by the by as the energy of the performers more than
makes up for any shortcomings – and what a cast, featuring most of the
Kath and Kim team these discs offer a chance to catch the early routines
of Gina Riley and Jane Turner as well as Magda Szubanski and Glenn
Robbins (both also from Kath and Kim), also heading up the cast are
Steve Vizard, Michael Veitch and the always funny Peter Moon.
Definitely
worth a look oh and Magda Szubanski’s crazed autograph hunter seeking
fan is a hoot. The only extra is a photo gallery on volume one.
