HIDEOUS KINKY
Distributor: Magna Pacific
Certificate: M15+
Director: Gillies Mackinnon
Cast: Kate Winslet, Said Taghaoui

Extras: No
Easter Eggs: No

Low key hippy journey of experience movie based on the novel/memoir by Esther Freud. Kate Winslet headlines as Julia who takes her two children with her to Marrakech in the early 1970’s in a bid to find herself and falls in with the local Bilal (Said Taghaoui) who opens her eyes to all manner of new ideas and feelings.

A movie that belies its origins as a BBC TV funded effort full as it is with beautiful cinematography and gorgeous vistas.

Hideous Kinky is a movie of small things that all go towards the whole experience; Winslet is very good here in this non mainstream movie allowing Julia to become a fuller person as she becomes immersed in the culture of Marrakech, Taghaoui is especially good as Julia’s lover who also becomes something of a father figure to Julia’s children.

Definitely a good movie and one that in the right mood will be enjoyed immensely with its scenes of smoky Marrakech markets and beautiful sunsets.

No extras unfortunately.
