HILARY
AND JACKIE
Released
by Roadshow Entertainment.
Available to buy.
Intriguing
drama about the true life
relationship between virtuoso
cellist Jacqueline Du Pre and
her sister Hilary. The movie
follows the pair through the
eyes of Hilary (played by our
own Rachel Grifiths) as she sees
her own talent at the flute
being overtaken by the genius of
her sister (Emily Watson plays
Jackie with a real sense of
delicacy, her career – and
life – finally breaking down
from the ravages of multiple
sclerosis.)
Based
on the book by Hilary and her
brother Piers the movie,
directed by Anand Tucker, offers
a very honest portrayal of
genius and all its foibles, a
key scene sees Jackie demanding
to sleep with Hilary’s
husband. Of course the movie is
also very music centric and
wonderfully stirring stuff it is
too. Throw in some key
supporting roles for the likes
of David Morrissey, James Frain
and Charles Dance and you have
an intriguing, occasionally
melodramatic, generally high
quality movie.
Only
extra is a trailer for the
movie.
