A
classy Aussie comedy set in the
quintessential Aussie country
town Givens Head (really Naine
in S.A).
When
local meatworker (and champion
racegoat trainer) Wally Norman
(Kevin Harrington) finds himself
mistakenly nominated to run for
parliament (after having been
mixed up with real candidate
Willy Norman) he decides to go
along with it, mainly to try and
save the meatworks which is in
danger of being shutdown and
despite a morbid fear of public
speaking, before you know it the
whole thing has gone to his
head.
This
very well written movie (from the pens of Andrew Jones and Rick Kalowski)
has an enormous amount of things going for it, very witty, nicely acted
(the talent on show includes the likes of Shaun Micallef as Wally’s
slimy opposition Ken Oats) H.G. Nelson, Bryan Dawe and Roz Hammond) and
a great country town setting.
The
characters of the town are all very well drawn, not relying on the
caricatures you often get in small scale Aussie movies, ok H.G. chews up
the scenery somewhat but that’s his style, The Honourable Wally Norman
certainly didn’t deserve the lacklustre reception it received on its
big screen outing and hopefully it will find a wider audience on DVD
(which suits it better anyway).
EXTRAS: Funny
commentary from director Ted Emery, Harrington and Micallef, a half hour
behind the scenes doco, a special message from Shaun Micallef filmed for
the Sydney Film Festival and a photo gallery.
