A
fairy floss romantic drama which
sees Colin Firth going all Hugh
Grantish as a typical
Hollywood
version of the Englishman
abroad. Escaping from his ex-fiancee
Firth moves to the small US town
of Hope where he is soon
involved with local girl Mandy
(played by Heather Graham), his
problems start though when his
ex (Minnie Driver) turns up
determined to win him back.
Although
somewhat on the predictable side
the movie is actually reasonably
fresh, funny and contains a
healthy amount of irony to
counter the sweetness of the
typical romcom plotline,
Hope
Springs
gives off the feel good factor.
The
leads are also good in their
roles although surely Firth’s
character wouldn’t have any
trouble over choosing Graham’s
small town sweetness over
Driver’s ambitious and
materialistic ex, there are also
supporting roles for Mary
Steenbergen as the local cupid
determined to make the path of
true love run smoothly and
Oliver Platt as Hope’s forward
thinking mayor.
Without
giving it the air of
condemnation
Hope
Springs
is a nice movie and an enjoyable
one too.
Extras
include a short making of
documentary.
