PERFECT STRANGERS
Distributor: Fox Home Entertainment
Region: 4
Certificate:
M15+
Cast:
Sam Neill, Rachael Blake
Extras: No
Sam Neill comes over all dark and sinister in this new rental release from Fox; Rachael Blake plays Melanie, a distinctly unglamorous worker in a New Zealand fish and chip shop who spends every Friday night trying to meet her perfect man in the local pub, enter Sam Neill as The Man (he actually remains nameless throughout the movie), before you know it Melanie is extremely drunk and Sam the Man has whisked her away on his boat to a very remote island and despite Neill professing his undying love for her Melanie realises she has in fact been kidnapped.
Full of absolutely stunning cinematography and the New Zealand island location looking just beautiful Perfect Strangers is a difficult movie to get a handle on, on the one hand it’s a psychological thriller on the other it’s a fairy tale style fable. Superbly acted by both the leads Perfect Strangers has much to say about , modern day society and much to say about the meaning of love, truth and relationships – it’s also jam packed with more twists and turns than an English country lane.

There is layers of meaning and messages to impart in Perfect Strangers and not just the obvious one of not being so drunk that you don’t know what you are doing but also the aforementioned relationship angle and how much we actually know ourselves, a good movie to watch with someone as it is guaranteed to get you thinking.
