PETE'S METEOR

Force Video. Out now to buy.

This 1998 low key drama features Mike Myers in a surprisingly serious role. Set in Dublin Ireland and made between the first two Austin Powers flicks Myers plays the titular Pete who is helping raise the three kids of his best friend who has died, when a meteorite lands in the kid’s backyard it changes all their lives forever.

This is pretty dramatic and gritty stuff, Myers find himself getting involved with the Irish version of the mob whilst the kids grandmother (Brenda Fricker) is an alocoholic, the movie’s best moments are when the kids decide to try and “steal back” their meteor which had been carted off by local scientist Alfred Molina.

With a cast that includes Molina and Fricker the standard is going to be quite high and Myers certainly does his best to throw off the comedy shackles, worth a look.

No extras though which is a bit of a disappointment.
