Pollyanna
should probably be marked down
as the most quintessential
family movie ever made, produced
by Disney in 1960 and starring
the always wonderful Hayley
Mills as the titular Polly in
her first American movie
Pollyanna just envelopes you in
its lovely warm cosyness.
When her parents die young Pollyanna is sent to live in a
small town with her none too nice maiden Aunt Polly (Jane Wyman) who
pretty much rules it over the rest of the townsfolk; Pollyanna though
has soon exerted her ever sunny influence over not just Polly but the
man she holds a candle for – Dr Chilton (Richard Egan) as well as
practically the whole town, watch out for an early appearance by Karl
Malden as the vicar, Adolphe Menjou as a reclusive old sort Pollyanna
brings out of his shell and Agnes Moorhead as the bedridden old woman
Pollyanna also works her magic on.
Very feel good, very Disney and of course a wonderful
watch. Rainy Sunday afternoon perfection.
Main extra is a 30 minute
making of doco called Pollyanna – The Making of a Masterpiece.
